Seminar on PC-PNDT Act

Beti Ka Janma Aur Hamara Puraskar

Sahara Jan Kalyan Samiti in collaboration with User Foundation conducted a one day seminar on PC-PNDT Act. Hari Shankar Sen, chairman of Sahara informed that this Act was meant to benefit women, but due to some corrupt officials, people today are misusing it. He said that in today’s 21st century India, between all the talks of development, a sad truth is that even today birth of girl child is looked down upon. This is why even after putting in place a law to stop female foeticide, cases of it are on increase. Traditionally people are unable to attach birth of a girl child with increase of their lineage and instead consider it to be the beginning of financial hardships for their families.

He also said that in families were female foeticide is not practiced, their too exists discrimination between boys and girls. Though even after facing such hardships, girls today are stepping forward and touching new heights day by day. But still the stigma of female foeticide is not dyeing.

To combat this problem Sahara and User Foundation have decided to run a scheme in which fathers who would voluntarily allow her girl child to be born will be presented with a certificate and cash prize.
