Objectives and Philosophy

Objectives

The broad objectives of the organisation are:

  • To develop capacities of local institutions and communities for sustainable development initiatives.
  • To provide technical and resource support to voluntary organisations in planning, implementation and monitoring of community based projects.
  • To support organisations in developing professional cadre of rural facilitators.
  • To provide desk and field surveys, research and consultancy support.
  • To pilot and demonstrate replicable strategies, processes and actions which can contribute to empower communities.
  • School sanitation and hygiene promotion through training programmes.

Philosophy

  • ‘The Tree’. The planting of trees is the least self-centred of all that we do. It is a purer act of faith than the procreation of children.
  • ‘We got inspired from a tree’. Like trees we should have deeply rooted values, without which volunteers cannot achieve their goals, and vision and mission remain just in paper.
  • A volunteer must strongly understand the difference between a tree and a volunteer. He should never perceive himself as a tree as he can never be a tree. The role and purpose of the volunteer is to nurture the organisation, ensuring timely inputs to safeguard the values, preventing it from founder’s syndrome and leave the rest on Mother Nature which has always produced miracles.
  • We want to function in a natural way thus we ponder over and over for each and every thing on our guiding philosophy ‘the tree’, because what can be so natural and holistic as a tree on this earth and as a master model  to learn from.
  • Someone is enjoying the shade and the fruits today, because someone else planted a tree a long time ago.
