Malnutrition

Madhya Pradesh has high incidence of malnutrition among children. According to reports, almost 40 per cent children in the state are malnourished — 16 per cent are severely malnourished, 4.4 per cent suffer from stunted growth and 20 per cent are rickety, a symptom of weak bones. The state has the highest infant mortality rate of 46 per thousand live births in India, compared to the national average of 36.

The most cited causes for malnutrition are income disparity, lack of public hygiene, sanitation and health education. Satna, Sagar, Rewa, Chhatarpur and Barwani district have heighest burden of stunting, an indicator of malnourishment. Lack of livelihood opportunities, especially in sectors like agriculture, coupled with restrictions imposed on the use of forests, have contributed to malnutrition.

Resourcelessness in Sagar district has been captured in the photos in the photo gallery. We intend to help malnourished children for their better future and exhort you the concerned citizen to contribute for the cause of your unfortunate fellows.
